Sun Cycle NYD - 2020

Pergola completed for Sun Cycle NYD 2020 at the Coburg Velodrome. Design completed with Billy Staughton.

A repetitious and wing like truss formation floats over the artists head, each truss creating a lattice like pattern when looked at from below. This lattice effect is further explored in the lateral bracing, which wrap around the 4 sides of the structure.

A clear poly-carbonate roof hugs the base of all 9 trusses, sheltering the artists and adding to the weightless feeling of the trusses flying above. This surface also acted as a perfect medium to catch the plethora of lights behind the artist as the sun went down for the first time that year. In doing so, the pergola transformed into a glittering cave of light, with the roof seemingly melting above the artists heads.
